A systems problem at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no aircraft could enter or leave the hub.

Flight operations have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant ATC system failure halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted because of an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, significant disruption are expected to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with many others experiencing delays.

An airport representative had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.

Passengers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the terminal as backlogs are worked through.
