Ex- FBI head James the ex-FBI chief has entered an innocent plea to giving untrue testimony to lawmakers and hindering a lawmaking procedure.

The former director's legal representative entered the response acting as his counsel in a national courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday morning.

Patrick Fitzgerald stated he would try to have the legal matter dismissed for multiple causes including that his the accused, a detractor of Donald Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.

Mr Comey was charged shortly after Donald Trump pressured his attorney general to proceed against him.

Legal Proceedings

In court on mid-week, his attorney the legal representative told the court they aimed to submit multiple petitions to terminate the case before a legal hearing, claiming the government's case was spiteful and that a government lawyer was wrongfully designated to handle the proceedings.

James Comey's proceedings was first handled by the original attorney, who resigned under scrutiny from Trump after his examination into a different opponent - NY AG Letitia James - did not succeed to file indictments.

Courtroom Atmosphere

Mr Comey came across in positive mood as he walked into the courtroom on mid-week, chatting with his attorneys and being lighthearted. He was accompanied by his spouse, his wife and daughter his daughter, a government attorney who the Trump administration recently fired.

Following the reading to the court read his constitutional guarantees and the two counts against him in court on Wednesday, James Comey was inquired if he comprehended the allegations.

Background Context

James Comey was the head of the FBI from 2013-2017 and was terminated about several months into Donald Trump's first administration as national leader. At the moment, he was leading an investigation into Russian election interference and whether there were any relationships between Russia and the presidential campaign.

Through a recording Mr Comey posted to his social media after he was charged, he declared he was innocent and alleged the former president of behaving like a "autocrat".

"We have understood for a long time that there are consequences to standing up to Mr Trump," he stated. "We refuse to live on our knees."

"I'm innocent," he added. "Therefore proceed with a court case."

These allegations against James Comey came after Trump shared on online platforms insisting on his top legal official, Pam Bondi, charge Mr Comey and others.
