Jurgen Klopp admits coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is a possibility. Klopp, post a game-changing near-decade reign that included a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait for three decades, currently occupies roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed England's top flight under Arne Slot, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the notion that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he shared with the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club on English soil. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, so the choice could be mine later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about which situations would need to occur to draw him back to the touchline, he confessed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “No longing for management; I avoid standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to media briefings four times, three times a week or constant media duties a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the team enjoying conversation, is pleasant. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I still have Van Dijk's laughter in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks that took the title in the previous season. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in all competitions after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the idea it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. An outstanding player. The French striker, superb talent. It’s a really good balanced team. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in during his tenure, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The forward was killed in a vehicle collision together with his sibling this past summer.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the squad missing him. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. A devastating blow for his teammates also. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it to justify results though it's a fact. Being in that space which he filled completely. Dealing with that on a personal level is not easy. Overwhelming.”
