Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the early names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the team's ten-game without a victory beginning to the top-flight season.

And both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the club leadership.

Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town head coach - who played over a century of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club board as they start the process of hiring a new manager.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham player is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not be required to provide any buyout fee.
